John Bergamo was one of the first
to experiment with hand drumming techniques on metal
gongs and cooking pots. The metal frame drum pictured
here a lot like a gong but with shorter sustain and
you can change the sounds with your hands as you do
on a frame drum. A variety of ringing sounds can be
achieved by playing in the center, edge, on the shell,
bending the frame, and playing with the fingernails.
A drum such as this can also be made entirely out
of glass, wood, or clay.
