Matepe

This is another type of mbira specific to the Shona People of Zimbabwe (Rhodesia). This one has 25 keys and is played with the thumbs of both hands plucking down and the index fingers of both hands plucking up from underneath the outside keys on either side. This is a difference with mbira dza vadzimu where the left hand index finger is not used. The matepe pictured here was made by Chaka Chawasarira.
